Athena Guides

Schools spend a lot of time and money on test prep.

Typically—-and too often—-students are presented with a series of random articles with no common theme or coherence. The result is boredom, disengagement and time taken away from teaching the core curriculum.

ATHENA GUIDES changes that.

Designed to be used by:

  • whole classrooms

  • small groups

  • individual learners

  • students receiving SETTS services

ATHENA GUIDES build expertise in topics that are of interest to students. Each topic is high interest and has a curriculum connection. Students build deep academic knowledge while also becoming better readers of nonfiction —-and preparing for state exams, all at once.

In each ATHENA GUIDE, you will find:

  • three passages on a topic, including

    • diagrams, timelines, illustrations, charts and tables

    • numerical data such as statistics,

    • primary and secondary sources

Each passage is followed by

  • multiple-choice questions

  • short response questions

  • extended response (and paired passage) questions

This is a fresh and exciting way to do ELA (and Math) test prep.

ATHENA GUIDES are available in the following topics:
